Carlson kicks off mayoral run

Sara Carlson, Alexandria City Council member in Ward 2, shook hands with supporters at an open house Thursday to officially kick off her campaign for mayor. It took place at the business that she and her husband, Ron, own, Carlson Music.

The current mayor, Dan Ness, is stepping down after three terms in office.

The filing period for council and school board positions opened July 31 and will continue through August 14.
