Letter - Water is a finite resource
I applaud people who have brown lawns. On the other hand, it discourages me to see bright green ones that are constantly being watered.

I applaud people who have brown lawns. On the other hand, it discourages me to see bright green ones that are constantly being watered. I have observed sprinklers running full blast during downpours, misdirected sprinklers that water the entire width of my county highway, forming pools on the other side of the road, totally doused driveways with rivers running down them, watered sidewalks, etc., etc.
I thought it was a well-known fact that grass will go dormant when thirsty and green up when it rains. It is remarkable and ridiculous that lawns continue to be watered, especially during drought conditions.
I have concern for the aquifer that is supplying water not only for lawns but also supplying my drinking water. Trees with large canopies help shade lawns — plant some! Water is a finite resource and needs to be conserved, not wasted watering lawns.
