Harlan Angell, 79

Harlan “Harley” G. Angell, 79, Miltona, died Saturday, July 28, 2012, at Knute Nelson in Alexandria.

Harlan was born May 5, 1933 to Vaughn and Elsie (Jahnke) Angell in Urbank. He was baptized May 28, 1933 at St. James Lutheran Church, South Effington and confirmed May 25, 1947 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Parkers Prairie.

He grew up in Parkers Prairie, attended Parkers Prairie public schools and graduated in 1951. He served in the U.S. Navy as a metal smith on an aircraft carrier off the coast of Korea from August 1951 to August 1955. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Parkers Prairie and then to California for a short time.

He was united in marriage to Jean H. Krause March 7, 1959 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie. Following their marriage they lived in New Hope, where he worked for General Tire Company from 1958 to 1980. They moved to their lake home in 1980, and Harley worked at Miltona Liquor Store from 1981 until he retired as manager in 1996. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Parkers Prairie American Legion Post #219. He enjoyed reading, traveling and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jean; sister-in-law, Joanna Angell of Faribault; two nephews, Randy Angell and Rick Angell; two nieces, Shelly Angell and Sherri Wallgren; cousins; along with other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Gary Angell.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 8 at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie with the Rev. Kirk Lee officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Gloria Hollatz and vocalist, Dedra Zwieg. Burial will take place at Parkers Prairie Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Parkers Prairie American Legion Post #219 and the Minnesota Honor Guard.

Honorary urn bearers will be Jeff and Deb Koep, Darrin and Kathy Nelson, Gene and Ardie Oswald, Emilie Pfeffer, Vickie Fredrick, Doug and Karen Hunt, Cody, Ethan and Leah Hunt and the American Legion Post #219.

A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church.
