After many years of dormancy, the local chapter of the League of Women Voters (LWV) is being re-established.

After many years of dormancy, the local chapter of the League of Women Voters (LWV) is being re-established.

An organizational kickoff meeting with state LWV leaders is planned for Saturday, July 28 from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the large meeting room at the Douglas County Library.

Established in 1929, LWV is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues and influences public policy through education and advocacy.

During election years, one of the League’s principal activities is nonpartisan sponsorship of candidate forums, which will be an important function with this fall’s many local and state races.
