Florence was born February 13, 1912 at Watertown, the daughter of Harry and Matilda Richards. Her early childhood was spent in Illinois.
Florence's family moved to Jackson County, Iowa, where she graduated from Maquoketa High School in 1930. After graduation she managed an ice cream shop for Swift and Company, and later a coffee shop. Years later, she sold the business and attended a beauty college in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
During WWII she worked at the Savanna, Illinois ordnance depot. Later she spent several months in New York City attending training classes for a beauty company and later became a sales representative for that company.
Florence relocated to Alexandria, where her family had moved to from Iowa and established a beauty salon known as the Style Beauty Salon, located on Broadway and later on Sixth Avenue. She retired at the age of 64 and spent the remaining years at her home on Lake Darling where she enjoyed entertaining many friends and family members. Florence loved to travel and especially enjoyed traveling to western states with her nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and three brothers.
Florence has two living sisters, Ethel Koon of Alexandria and Alyce Harbert of Phoenix, Arizona; along with many loving nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, July 25 at Anderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Erickson officiating. Interment was at Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria. Casket bearers were Robert Koon, Richard Koon, Chuck Koon, Jack Koon, Jeff Rodel and Fred Rodel.
