The audience at Thursday night’s Red Willow Arts Coalition concert on the Douglas County Courthouse lawn received an extra treat.
Matt Velline, now a resident of the Alexandria area, was joined by his wife, Julie and son, Will. Will stole the show, “playing” a cello as his bass, as he loves to mimic the tricks of his cousin Tommy, who is the son of pop music singer Bobby Vee. Vee had a string of hit songs in the 1960s, including Take Good Care of My Baby and Red Rubber Ball.
Matt and Julie Velline wowed the crowd with a variety of 1960s hits through current music, ranging from Patsy Cline to Roy Orbison, and brought the audience on their feet dancing.
