Lakes Area gymnastics Lakes Area Recreation is offering gymnastics day camps from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. throughout the summer.
Holy Moly Ole 5K, 10K
The next Holy Moly Ole race series will be Saturday, July 21.
Participants can choose to do the 1K kids walk/run, 1K family or individual walk/run, 5K walk/run or 10K run.
All proceeds go toward youth programs and scholarships at Lakes Area Recreation.

Jenny Klein walk/run fundraiser
There will be a 5K run/walk and kids fun run beginning at the Gardonville back parking lot in Brandon on Saturday, August 4 as part of the Jenny Klein fundraising event.
Registration is from 7-7:45 a.m. with the run/walk at 8 a.m. and the fun run at 9:15 a.m. There is a $20 registration fee for adults in the run/walk and the cost for 10 and younger is $10. There’s no cost for the fun run.
All proceeds will be used to offset medical expenses.

Hole-in-one
Fred Hemquist of Alexandria recorded a hole-in-one July 7 at Nordic Trails Golf Course.
Hemquist aced the 109-yard No. 8 using a 9-iron. He was golfing with Butch Blake of Forada, John Potratz of Parkers Prairie and Al Suter of Alexandria.
This was Hemquist’s second hole-in-one in less than a year at Nordic Trails, recording his first on August 14, 2011.
United Way Golf Classic winners
A total of 32 teams competed in the 12th annual United Way Golf Classic to support United Way of Douglas and Pope Counties, with the Sertoma 1 team of Anthony Zimny, Royce Martin, Eddie Reif and Scott Duberowski claiming top honors.
Longest drive honors went to Ben Vangsness and Kaylee Emter, while Kristi Kjeseth and Nick Heydt won the longest putt and Brooke Steinbring and Dan Lee won the closest to the pin contest.
The Sertoma team also won the Golden Club award, a traveling trophy between Rotary and Sertoma, with the grand prize going to Pete Woit.
The tournament was held at the Geneva Golf Club.
Former Melrose athlete in Olympic games
Former Melrose athlete Amanda (Thieschafer) Smock qualified for the Summer Olympic Games in London, finishing first in the women’s triple jump trials in Eugene, Oregon with a jump of 45’9”.
The Summer Olympic Games run from July 27 through August 12, with the women’s triple jump competition being held August 3 and 5.
4-H Night at the Beetles
The Alexandria Beetles will hold 4-H Night on Saturday, July 28.
4-H’ers from Big Stone, Douglas, Grant, Lac qui Parle, Pope and Stevens counties will be providing fun games and prizes for children before the game begins and will be holding intermission activities between innings.
Tickets for 4-H families can be purchased from county 4-H offices with tickets for the public available online at www.alexandriabeetles.com or at the gate the day of the game.
Harvest Duathlon
The second annual Harvest Duathlon is set for Saturday, September 1 in Alexandria.
In addition, there will be a kids’ race for children 10 and younger August 31.

Lake Minnewaska triathlon
The 10th annual Lake Minnewaska triathlon will be Saturday, August 4 along the shores of Lake Minnewaska in Glenwood.
The course is a 400-yard swim parallel to the beach, 11.1-mile bike loop and 2.5-mile run.

Mount Carmel golf tourney
The 17th annual Mount Carmel golf tournament is set for Friday, July 13 at the Lake Miltona Golf Course.
There will be an 11 a.m. lunch and registration followed by a noon shotgun start. There will be music and appetizers at 4:30 p.m. with an Italian dinner and prizes at 5:30 p.m. at the lodge.
Cost is $100 per person for golf, lunch and dinner, or $25 per person for dinner only.
The tournament benefits the Mount Carmel Ministries family camperships.

Lakes Area gymnastics
Lakes Area Recreation is offering gymnastics day camps from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. throughout the summer.
No gymnastics experience is required and each week will have a different challenge.
Camps run from July 16-20, July 23-27, August 6-10, August 20-24 and August 27-31.
Cost is $125 per week and camps are for ages 7 and older.

FCA/YMCA golf scramble
The Alexandria Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and the Alexandria Area YMCA will hold a golf scramble on Monday, July 23 at the Alexandria Golf Club, with the proceeds supporting the YMCA financial assistance program and the FCA camp scholarships.
Registration is at 11:45 a.m. with a 1 p.m. shotgun start. Dinner and a program will begin at 5 p.m.
Registration includes golf, cart, dinner and the program.
Cost is $125 per person or $500 per team and is limited to 32 teams.
