Thrivent Financial and Habitat launch new program

A new program, Thrivent Builds Repairs, is helping low-income homeowners spruce up their homes and neighborhoods. The program, a partnership between Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and Habitat for Humanity International, is launching across the country in July and will concentrate on upgrading existing homes in partnership with low-income homeowners.

The program supports neighborhood development by making homes more attractive, safer or more energy-efficient with projects such as landscaping, accessibility ramp construction and painting.

Thrivent Builds allows the upgrading of existing homes and nurturing of community pride, noted Jackie Hintz, vice president of Member Engagement and Growth for Thrivent Financial. It aims to complete 160 repair projects in 2012 with more than 3,200 volunteers engaged in supporting it.

The projects will typically call for a one or two day commitment from volunteers. Volunteers will have a chance to partner with the homeowner and experience the camaraderie of a Thrivent Builds trip.

Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity is designed to involve Thrivent members and Lutherans in helping provide a “hand up” to people in need of affordable housing, offering them a path to greater economic independence.
