Sherri Bear, 71

Sherri Ann Bear, 71, went home to see her Savior, Jesus on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at her home in Alexandria.

Sherri was born August 22, 1940 in St. Paul to Russell and Genevieve (LeVasseur) Turnquist. She was united in marriage to Owen Bear and her children include Becki, Mike, Vicki, Albert, Kevin, Kelly, Jim and John.

Sherri worked as a homemaker and also worked in sales including insurance and advertising. For a season, she and Owen owned a restaurant. She later worked as a cook for The Salvation Army. In her retirement, she lived out her motto of “Love Everyone, Serve Anyone!” and continued her joy of cooking to serve others.

She is survived by her sons, Mike (Jan) Bear of Marion, IA, Albert (Renee) Bear of Newhall, IA, Kevin (Tammy) Bear of Bloomington, and Jim (Lisa) Bear of Alexandria; daughters, Becki (Doug) Franck of Fairfax, IA, Vicki (Bob) Siek of Grand River, IA, and Kelly (Ed) Gnat of Salinas, CA; 18 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren; siblings, Marilyn, Glen, Joy and Richard; many nieces and nephews; and dear friends.

Sherri was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Genevieve; husband, Owen; son, John; and brothers, Merril “Louie” DeLisle and Walter Turnquist.

A funeral service was held Friday, July 13 at Alexandria Covenant Church in Alexandria with the Rev. John LeVahn officiating. Music was provided by organist, Nancy Holm and soloists, Tony Pitschka and Emily Bear. Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg, IA. Casket bearers were Carl Kaeding, Shane Franck, Seth Franck, Doug Franck, Jake Bear and Dale Erickson.
