• Stepping forward in community outreach and fundraising efforts, Douglas County Hospital recently appointed Eddie Reif as director of community relations and development.

Reif’s business and philanthropic background coupled with his leadership and passion for local healthcare issues make him the ideal candidate for this position. He holds degrees from St. John’s University in Collegeville and the Graduate School of Banking in Madison, Wisconsin, which led him to his role as vice president of State Bank and Trust in Alexandria.

Relationship building is a cornerstone of Reif’s activities for the bank, where he built strong community ties. He’ll put that skill set to good use making a difference in the lives and patients of Douglas County Hospital and its integrated partners.

Reif and his wife Sarah live in Alexandria, where Sarah is dean of students at Discovery Middle School.

• Mona and William Schultz of Alexandria were promoted to the Herbalife President’s Team as independent distributors. They have been with the company since April 1998.

The President’s Team is one of the company’s most prestigious designations for its distributors.

The Shultzes are now eligible to earn bonuses based on their sales volume and a trip to the company’s global headquarters in Los Angeles, California.

• Jeff Bertram of Paynesville was recently recognized by the Stearns County Board of Commissioners for his nine years of service on the Stearns County Planning Commission. Bertram served as vice-chair and chair for several years. Current board chair, DeWayne Mareck, presented Bertram with a plaque recognizing his dedicated service to the county.

“I have learned more about the planning process in the past few years than I ever thought I would,” Bertram said. ”On one hand, the whole planning process has gotten much more complicated than anyone ever expected, but on the other hand, I always tried to give the public a fair say.”

Bertram was recently appointed to the County Shoreline Review Panel by the board. He also serves on the Paynesville City Council and works for West Central Sanitation, a refuse and recycling service provider that also serves the Alexandria area.

• The Minnesota Lakes Maritime Museum announces the addition of two new board members, Loraine Jensen and Rose Shorma.

Jensen earned a degree in education from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. In Alexandria, she worked in developmental disabilities and special education. She formed Jensen Consulting in 1993 and was selected by the Bush Foundation for a Leadership Fellowship in 2001, then completed her master’s degree in public affairs from the University of Minnesota Hubert H. Humphrey Institute. She currently works as an education specialist for the Minnesota Department of Education and resides in Roseville.

Shorma graduated from St. Cloud Technical and Community College in sales and marketing. She worked as an insurance agent, sales rep for KCMT-TV and American Solutions for Business for 10 years in Morris. In Alexandria, Shorma started Proforma Rose Shorma franchise. She currently serves as a trustee for St. Mary’s Church, a board of director for Bremer Bank and a board member on Alexandria Technical and Community College foundation. Shorma resides with her husband, Dick, and children on Lake Geneva.

• Caring Hands Dental Clinic of Alexandria hired two new staff dentists to its nonprofit organization, Dr. Melissa Lee and Dr. Stephanie Lee.

They are twin sisters and graduated with honors from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry this past spring. Both doctors will provide general dentistry procedures at the Caring Hands Clinic. Originally from Burnsville, they will reside in Alexandria.

The Caring Hands Dental Clinic provides dental care and education to citizens of all ages who are served by MA/MnCare through Blue Plus and PrimeWest Health.

• American Solutions for Business (ASB) recently hired Glenn Miller as their new vice president of integration/operations. Miller has a Bachelor of Science degree in business management (1984) and an MBA (1998) from St. Cloud State University.

Miller spent nearly 19 years with Minnesota-based Fingerhut, a nationwide direct retailer, and most recently worked as a sales manager for CHR of Houston, Texas, a provider of services to the rural telecommunications market.

In his new position, Miller will work with ASB’s sales support department, the largest team at the home office in Glenwood. He will also provide direction for the integration of sales associates who join American as the result of a merger or an acquisition.

Miller is a native Minnesotan and lives in Brooten with his wife and family. He has been active in his community as a youth coach and served as the town’s mayor for four years.

• Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union (MMFCU) received national recognition for outstanding marketing and business development achievements in the credit union industry. The marketing team was recently honored with three awards from The Credit Union National Association (CUNA).

MMFCU received a Categories Best award in the annual report category for their 2010 MMFCU annual report, “Success is a Journey.” They were also honored with Diamond Awards in the direct mail series and newsletter categories.

Marketing and business development director Marnie Perfetti Galston and research and marketing coordinator Mollie Kennedy were recognized for the awards. MMFCU’s award-winning pieces were designed in collaboration with Range Printing and Silver Bullet Marketing.

•?Noonan Sport Specialists (NSS) announced the completion of the Precision Nutrition Level 1 Coach Certification (Pn1) by trainer Steve Reishus.

Reishus, originally from Alexandria, graduated from Alexandria Technical College with an Associate in Applied Science degree in health and fitness in 2008. As a National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) certified personal trainer, Reishus has worked with a multitude of clients of all ages with varying goals and abilities.

Pn1 is a comprehensive nutrition education and certification program designed specifically for use in personal training/strength coaching environments. The certification covers cellular biology, digestion, metabolism, macro/micro nutrients, the practice of coaching and more.

Jerry Anderson retired June 14 after 25 years of service with UBC and ProBuild.

Dan “Hud” Hodgson joined ProBuild as a contractor salesperson. Hodgson has more than 30 years’ experience having previously worked at Western Lumber (25), Simonson Lumber (2) and Budget Building Supply (5).

Joe Helm was named the general manager at ProBuild Alexandria. Helm comes from the St. Cloud area with 30 years’ experience in the building materials industry.
