Letter - Boats should open up swimming area

I know Rotary Beach is not a monitored beach by any standard, but I feel that it is not much of a beach anymore.

To the editor:

I know Rotary Beach is not a monitored beach by any standard, but I feel that it is not much of a beach anymore. I enjoy the beach not having a life guard and how sandy it is. However, when you drive by, it has become just a boating dock for people who want to swim on a beach. Why?

If someone who likes to go swimming goes over there, sometimes there is not a spot to go into the water due to the overuse by boaters. I like to see the boaters out having a good time, but if you are in a boat, go out into the lake somewhere. or even stay out a good couple hundred feet away from the beach. This is not hard to do and it opens up an area for people who want to use the beach or for those who are unable to have a boat to go out into the lake.

I know it’s not an official beach by any standard, but honestly, if you have a boat, why park on the beach or in the area where people would be swimming? I know when I go out there I want to be able to swim and not have to worry about getting hit by a boat.
