The Alexandria Classic Clippers upped their record to 7-1 in the North Star Classic Baseball League on July 1 with a 9-7 win over the Watertown Mudcatz.
The Classic Clippers found themselves down 5-3 before scoring six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Kurtis Kuhn got the scoring started with his second double of the day with two runners on. Doug Breitkreutz, Bill Ziegler and Randy Roers followed with singles before Chris Wessel delivered a three-RBI double to left.
That gave Alexandria a 9-5 lead that it would never relinquish. The Mudcatz would rally with two runs in the top of the seventh, but Ziegler made a nice play at third base to end the game.
Breitkreutz and Joe Korkowski combined to limit Watertown to just two earned runs. Breitkreutz got the win by going the first six innings. That helped the Classic Clippers avenge a 1-0 loss to the Mudcatz from earlier this season.
Alexandria will return for its next home game on July 21 for a doubleheader against the Becker Buzzards. First pitch at Knute Nelson Field is scheduled for noon.
