The Alexandria Fire Department apologizes to residents for siren malfunctions that have been occuring at Darling Avenue and County Road 44.
Fire Marshal Dennis Stark explained the problem: "During the summer with high humidity and heat, radio skip occurs and there is another county some distance away that uses the same frequency as ours," he said. "We are in the process of upgrading these two sirens to eliminate this problem. We have to order some new equipment for them."
The fire department will be doing a monthly test on all the sirens this Wednesday, July 4 at about 1 p.m.
