The Miltona Tigers swept two games over the weekend by ending things in dramatic fashion with a 13-inning win over Sauk Centre.
The Tigers and Titans were locked in a 2-2 game after three innings before Miltona walked off with a 5-4 win in the bottom of the 13th inning on Sunday. The two teams went nine scoreless innings after the third.
Things changed for both sides in the 13th. Sauk Centre scored twice off relievers Dalton Leuschke and Trey Thompson in the top of the inning.
Miltona responded by immediately posting a threat in the bottom half of the frame. Shawn Krueger started the rally with a single before Ryan Peppersack and Mark Whiting drew walks to load the bases.
That brought Chris Curry to the plate with nobody out. Curry delivered a sharp single to right that brought in two runs. The Titans tried to cut down Peppersack, who represented the tying run, but the ball skipped past and into the Miltona dugout. That allowed Whiting to walk in for the game-winning run.
It was fitting that Krueger started the rally in the 13th after throwing a gem through 10 innings for the Tigers. He struck out 10 Sauk Centre batters before giving way to Peppersack to start the 11th. He kept it a 2-2 game over the next two innings.
Peppersack tossed four innings to close out a 6-3 win over Clarissa last Saturday. He struck out four and allowed just one run after taking over for Andrew Radjl in the sixth. Radjl went the first five innings, allowing just two runs.
Miltona gave him some room to work with early as the Tigers scored five runs over the first three innings. Sam Steidl had a two-RBI single in the first. Miltona added an insurance run in the seventh to finish off the win.
The Tigers improved to 10-3 on the season and remained in second place in the East Division with the two wins. They will travel to Carlos tonight, Friday, to take on the 12-0 Cougars. First pitch is scheduled for 8 p.m.
