Truck-related fatalities drop in Minnesota

Truck-related fatalities dropped to their lowest numbers in a decade, according to the recently released Minnesota Motor Vehicle Crash Facts published by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.

Over the past ten years, truck-related crashes, injuries and fatalities have trended downward.

Since 2002, the number of truck related:

• Fatal crashes dropped 37 percent

• Persons injured dropped 27 percent

• Persons killed dropped 41 percent

"We are glad to see the numbers heading in the right direction," says Minnesota Trucking Association President, John Hausladen. "This success is due to the cooperative efforts of the trucking industry, law enforcement and passenger vehicle groups working to educate everyone on how to safely share the road."

The Minnesota Trucking Association is committed to continually improving truck safety through programs like the Safety Council's Take a Break for Safety event, Coon Rapids High School Driver Education programs, Minneapolis Bike Safety and more.

Such training across all users is critical since the data shows that when cars and trucks collide, it is usually the car driver's fault.
