Starting July 1, the Minnesota Department of Revenue will make it easier for taxpayers to make tax payments with credit or debit cards.
The department has switched to a new vendor, Value Payment Systems, to handle these payments through a new website – www.payMNtax.com. Paying online by credit or debit card is faster, safer and more convenient than paying by paper checks.
“This change is part of the department’s effort to make it easier for Minnesota taxpayers to voluntarily comply and pay their taxes,” said Revenue Commissioner Myron Frans. “We have been testing the new vendor for over a month. We are confident that Minnesota taxpayers will find it convenient and easy to use.”
The new system features a digital time stamp to guarantee that taxpayers have accurate records of their transactions. The website also offers an email reminder option to schedule future reminders for upcoming tax payments. It will eventually offer automatic scheduling to ensure that taxpayers never miss their payments.
There is a small convenience fee for the service, but it is less than the fee provided by the previous vendor.
The Department of Revenue offers a variety of ways for taxpayers to pay electronically:
