The Osakis Legion baseball team won its season opener 10-3 against Kerkhoven behind a strong start from Jordan Frederick.
Frederick tossed a one-hitter and didn’t walk anybody in a dominant performance on the mound. Two errors behind him on the first two batters he faced led to three unearned runs for Kerkhoven in the bottom of the first. Only one runner reached base on Frederick over the final six innings. That came on an error in the third as he finished with seven strikeouts.
The Osakis offense gave him plenty of run support with six runs in the first two innings. Frederick had a lot to do with that. He was 4-for-5 with two doubles, three runs scored and two RBIs. Drew Fearing hit right behind him in the third spot in the lineup and added four hits, three runs and three RBIs. Doug Zimmel also had a big day at the plate with a double, a single and two RBIs.
Osakis had to cancel its two scheduled games for next week against Brandon and Alexandria. The team will next play on June 24 when it travels to Urbank for a 7 p.m. first pitch against Parkers Prairie.
