Classic Clippers: Alexandria sweep improves team to 3-1
The Alexandria Classic Clippers improved to 3-1 on the young season this past weekend with a sweep over the Dassel Dukes.
The Classic Clippers handled the Dukes with relative ease, winning 9-0 in the nightcap after taking game one 9-4.
Alexandria got a strong start on the mound from Doug Breitkreutz before rain stopped the game after five innings. Breitkreutz tossed a two-hitter during that time and also chipped in two hits to help himself out from the plate.
The Clippers scored four runs in the bottom of the first to give him some run support to work with. Joe Korkowski led the Alexandria offense with two doubles and a triple. Lee Backhaus, Matt Strong, Roger Johnson, Chris Wessel and Bill Ziegler all added hits as well.
The Clippers scored in each of the first five innings to take control early in game one. Backhaus got things going with a first-inning double before coming around to score the game’s first run. Backhaus added hits in his next two at-bats to help his team open things up. Korkowski, Mike Weber and Kurtis Kuhn each added two hits apiece in the opener.
Korkowski got the win by going the distance on the mound. He struck out three and allowed four hits and three walks. The Dukes got to him for three runs in the fourth before Korkowski settled down and posted zeroes over the final three frames.
