Letter - Be gracious and don't save seating
Summer is upon us and we are all looking forward to the celebrations and parades! But I can’t help wonder if Alexandria residents and business owners will be/are going to be more gracious to their out-of-town guests than they have been?
To the editor:
Summer is upon us and we are all looking forward to the celebrations and parades!
But I can’t help wonder if Alexandria residents and business owners will be/are going to be more gracious to their out-of-town guests than they have been?
Gracious in the sense of not saving spots on the city sidewalks with chairs and blankets in anticipation of the parades.
Gracious as in not saving spots on the bleachers of the stadium in anticipation of the bands.
Alexandria’s guests who arrive early in order to find a good spot, only to find that spot already “reserved” with an empty blanket or chair, should be allowed to remove that empty blanket or chair without fear of retaliation.
No one should be allowed to litter the sidewalks or bleachers with abandoned chairs and/or blankets in anticipation of an event.
In the town I came from, such a thing was unheard of. It’s just plain rude!
City officials, this should not be allowed. Plain and simple.
What next? Saving good spots at the local grocer or department store in anticipation of your arrival? No, wait a minute, that chair or blanket would be removed and discarded as trash.
