Brittany Rooney of Alexandria is part of a group of about 40 high school singers who make up the 2012 Minnesota All-State Lutheran Choir (MASLC). Rooney graduated this year from Jefferson High School and is in her second year with MASLC.

On Friday, June 15 at 7 p.m. at Mount Carmel Ministries Camp near Alexandra, the MASLC will hold an open rehearsal. It is free and open to the public.

Chosen from applicants from all over the state of Minnesota, these young Lutherans rehearse at Mount Carmel Ministries Camp.

Celebrating its 43rd year, the MASLC exists to provide an aesthetic experience via choral music and to impart to local congregations enthusiasm and appreciation for music, new and old, in the worship service. The choir will perform a variety of music from classics to gospel.

Dr. Thomas Rossin directs the choir. Now in his 22nd year with the MASLC, he is the founder and director of "Exultate," a chamber choir and orchestra based in the Twin Cities.

This concert utilizes audience participation. Each concert concludes with the choir seated within the audience, sharing the joy of singing church hymns.

Only a portion of the concert is sung in traditional choir formation. Placing itself throughout the sanctuary, the choir involves the audience in the praise of God through music.
