Astrup tours China with Concordia College band

Concordia College Moorhead freshman Rachel Astrup of Alexandria, daughter of Mark and Cheryl Astrup of Alexandria, recently toured China with the Concordia Band. They visited cities such as Hong Kong and Beijing and saw several famous sites including Lamma Island, the South China Botanical Garden and the ancient village of Ciqikoou. The band performed at a number of different schools, featuring a variety of music and including songs selected specifically for China. Astrup plays the baritone saxophone.

Local student travels abroad

Amber Pospisil, daughter of Jim and Pat Pospisil of Alexandria, a junior at Concordia College Moorhead, is taking part in the Summer School Abroad program. She is in the "Abnormal Psychology in York, UK" program led by Dr. Susan Cordes-Green, assistant professor, psychology. Students will explore York, England. They will have a rare opportunity to volunteer at York's famous Retreat, an institute that helped pave the way for the development of respectful and humane approaches to the treatment of mental illnesses. The class will travel to England, Austria, Ireland and Scotland.

Wilts receives Matthew Ian Helgesen award

Matt Wilts of Alexandria is a recipient of the Matthew Ian Helgesen award from the University of Minnesota Morris (UMM). The award was established by Tim and Jean Helgesen in memory of their son, Matthew, '06. This award is given to the captain of the Bad Movie Club. Wilts was one of the first students to start the club during his freshman year at UMM. The award honors the values of UMM and reflects student initiative and creativity in leadership and serves to encourage the captain to keep the club going by doing "all the extras that always need to be done."

Students were recognized in a special Honors and Award Ceremony on May 11 at the Morris campus.
