Osakis' Becka Sadlemyer passed Esko's Erika Shady in the final leg of the 4x200 relay to win the girls Class A state title at Hamline University this afternoon.
Abby Stroup, Brittney Sadlemyer and Hannah Szech joined her to finish in a time of 1:44.78. That surpassed the season best time of 1:45.65 that this group set in the prelims on Friday.
Stroup (8th grade), Br. Sadlemyer (8th grade) and Szech (9th grade) kept Osakis within striking distance for their senior anchor, who knew exactly what she had to do down the stretch.
"As I was coming around the corner, I could see the girl right next to me in lane four and I thought, 'You know what? She's not that far away, ' Becka said. "I just kept running and I eventually passed her. I knew I had to keep pushing because she's a good anchor. When I crossed the line, I couldn't help but smile."
The Osakis girls came into the meet with the fifth fastest seed time at 1:46.84 but ran their best when it mattered most today.
