Independence was the focal point in the “Walk or Roll” fundraiser held on Saturday, May 5 at the Jefferson High School track field in Alexandria.
Participants of the Walk or Roll for Independence walked the track to raise funds to further independent living options for the residents of Nordic Meadow Apartments.
This is a new apartment, no-frill complex built in Alexandria the fall of 2010. This complex is the first in rural Minnesota to include young adults with developmental disabilities, brain injuries and physical disabilities.
The following businesses donated to the walk and helped to make it a successful event – Elden’s Fresh Foods, Culligan Water, Henry’s Foods Inc., Burger King, Anderson Funeral Home and Viking Savings Bank. Dave and Carol Dittberner helped organize the walk.
This event was sponsored and made possible through the efforts of Friends of Nordic Meadow, a non-profit, supporting accessible, affordable housing to very low-income adults with qualifying disabilities.
Anyone interested in donating, may call Connie at (320) 815-2664 for more information. The third annual Walk or Roll for Independence is set for Saturday, May 4, 2013.
