Timberwolves coming to Alex
The 2012 U.S. Bank/Minnesota Timberwolves Summer Caravan will be making a stop in Alexandria on June 12.
The three-city tour stop is scheduled to be in town from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Lakes Area Recreation facility. Players on the caravan will include guard Wayne Ellington and forward Anthony Tolliver.
Among the events slated for the tour are free basketball clinics that are open to the public. An autograph session will follow at the conclusion of the clinic. There will also be an appearance by Timberwolves mascot Crunch. Player development coach Shawn Respert, along with Timberwolves front-office staff, will also be in attendance.
Any ages are welcome to attend and no registration is required.
Golf fundraiser
The Carpenter’s Crew is hosting a 9-hole golf scramble at Hardwood Hills Golf Course on July 15.
Teams will be made up of four people with both men and women welcome. The scramble will begin with a shotgun start at 2 p.m. that day.
The entry fee is $50, which includes nine holes of golf, half a cart, burgers, prizes and a $30 donation that will go to support the Habitat For Humanity “Women’s Build a Home” this summer.

CLC performer
of the week
Alexandria’s A.J. Anderson was selected as the Central Lakes Conference performer of the week in baseball after allowing just one run in six innings against St. Michael-Albertville. Anderson had a no decision in that game.
Eagles horseshoe fundraiser
The Alexandria Eagles Horseshoe League will hold a fundraising pork chop dinner on Friday, June 29, from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Eagles Club in Alexandria on Highway 29 North.
Grilled pork chops will be served with corn on the cob, beans and bacon and potato salad.
Everyone is welcome.
Holy Moly Ole run series
The next race in the Lakes Area Recreation “Holy Moly Ole Five” run series is set for Saturday, June 9.
The event includes a 1k kids walk/run, 1k family or individual walk/run, a 5k walk/run or a 10k run.
All proceeds from the event go directly toward youth programs and scholarships at LAR.

FCA/YMCA golf scramble
The Alexandria Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and the Alexandria Area YMCA will hold a golf scramble on Monday, July 23 at the Alexandria Golf Club, with the proceeds supporting the YMCA financial assistance program and the FCA camp scholarships.
Registration is at 11:45 a.m. with a 1p .m. shotgun start. Dinner and a program will begin at 5 p.m.
Registration includes golf, cart, dinner and the program.
Cost is $125 per person or $500 per team and is limited to 32 teams.

LAR U-8 soccer academy
Lakes Area Recreation will hold its U-8 soccer academy on June 11 for girls and June 12 for boys.
The program focuses on fun and skill development while offering a more structured and competitive program. It is directed by Alexandria girls’ soccer coach Tom Roos.

Osakis Lions to host walleye tournament
The Osakis Lions Club will hold its 32nd annual walleye fishing tournament on Lake Osakis June 16-17.
Prizes will include $8,000 for the first place team, based upon 100 teams being entered. The top 15 places will receive cash prizes. In addition, trophy plaques will be awarded to the top three teams.
The tournament is a two-person event, limited to 100 teams and entry fee is $350 per team.
A banquet meal and rules meeting will be held the Friday night before the tournament.

Cardinal girls’ basketball camp
Former Golden Gopher basketball player Jamie Broback will be the featured clinician for grades 7-11 at the 2012 Alexandria “Round Ball Week” girls’ basketball camp June 11-14.
Broback was part of the University of Minnesota’s final four run.
Camp for grades kindergarten-2 runs from 8-9:30 a.m. and is coached by the Cardinal varsity staff, with grades 7-11 running from 9:30 a.m.-noon and coached by Broback. Grades 3-6 will meet from 12:30-3 p.m. and will be coached by the varsity staff.

Hoelscher baseball camp
Nate Hoelscher, former pitcher for the Kansas City Royals, will hold a baseball camp for those in grades 5-6 interested in learning and developing the fundamentals of fielding, hitting and pitching.
The camp runs Monday-Friday, June 25-29 from 9 a.m.-noon for 5th graders and 1-4 p.m. for 6th graders.

Cap Paciotti golf tourney
The Cardinal Athletic Foundation/Cap Paciotti Memorial golf tournament will be held Saturday, June 16 at the Alexandria Golf Club.
This year’s honoree is Rich Nodland of Alexandria, who, along with Paciotti, helped create the Cardinal Athletic Foundation.
Registration for the tournament will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. and dinner at 5 p.m.
It is a four-person handicapped scramble with field events, a hole-in-one contest and skins and mulligans available.
Cost is $500 for the four-person team and includes green fees, cart, range balls, field events and dinner.
Extra dinner tickets can be purchased for $25.

Scott Dirck’s Golf Academy holding sessions
Scott Dirck’s Golf Academy at the Geneva Golf Club will be holding two junior golf sessions on Thursday, June 21 from 9-11 a.m. for ages 3-9 and Friday, June 22 from 9-11 a.m. for ages 10-13.
There will be several stations for teaching etiquette, long game, short game and putting in a safe and fun environment.
Each session will run for six consecutive weeks.

AGC junior golf academy
The Alexandria Golf Club’s Junior Golf Academy will start June 14 and run through August 24.
Lisa Grimes, AGC’s director of instruction, will work with kids ages 5-10 on Thursday mornings and ages 11-15 on Friday mornings. The program is open to all kids in the area.

The 12th annual United Way Golf Classic will be Monday, June 11 at the Geneva Golf Club.
Proceeds from the classic support United Way programs in Douglas and Pope counties.

Card boys’ basketball camp
The Alexandria boys’ basketball program, along with Lakes Area Recreation, will hold its Cardinal boys’ camp June 18-21.
Camp directors include Cardinal head basketball coach Forrest Witt, assistant coaches Josh Dale and Tom Miller, along with former and current varsity players.
The camp focuses on fundamentals and skill development, along with offense, defense and transition play. Players will also work on goal setting, teamwork, reaching potential, mental toughness and confidence.
The camp is open to players in kindergarten through 7th grade, and will be divided into four age groups.

Alexandria boys’ basketball youth league
The Alexandria boys’ basketball program will hold a youth league to help provide players with the chance to learn and develop.

21st Greg Schwartz wrestling camp
The 21st Greg Schwartz Memorial wrestling camp is set for June 18-21 at the Morris Area High School auxiliary gym.
