“The Otto Bremer Foundations and Bremer Bank are committed to building healthy communities in Starbuck,” said Jan Hagen, president of Bremer Bank in Morris/Starbuck. “It’s gratifying that our owner and partner, the Otto Bremer Foundation, has offered its backing to this school, which provides critical services to support the overall health of our community.”
The MADT currently serves 62 full-time and nine part-time students from 13 counties during the school year. Twenty-two of these students are from Douglas and Pope County.
Many of these children are strategically placed in foster or group homes in the area so they can access MADT services. They have both special education and mental health needs that cannot be met successfully in the traditional school setting.
Through intensive work in both areas, the students have opportunities to meet the goals on their diagnostic treatment plan and hopefully reintegrate back into their home school setting.
The Bremer grant provides financial resources necessary to continue services to the underfunded population in the program. This includes transportation for summer mental health services, family skills and therapy for students without insurance coverage.
