Power goes out in Alexandria for half-hour

Alexandria Light and Power (ALP) experienced a major power outage in the south and west portions of its service area today.

The outage lasted abut a half hour before the power came back on at 1:15 p.m.

The outage occurred at a major substation when a large transformer tripped out of service, according to ALP. The exact cause of the trip is not yet determined.
