Dale Walsh was driving his 1994 Ford truck last Friday when he heard something hissing from the truck’s bed that contained five 20 to 40-pound propane tanks. He pulled into the McDonald’s North parking lot to check on it when something triggered a fiery explosion that singed the hair off of Walsh’s arm, according to the Alexandria Fire Department, which responded to the scene at about 8:30 p.m.

Large fireballs continued to erupt from the back of the truck. The truck, with an estimated value of $6,000 to $7,500, was a total loss, according to Fire Chief Jeff Karrow.

No serious injuries were reported.

The State Patrol and Alexandria Police Department also responded.
