Girls' golf: Minnewaska lands back at state

The Minnewaska girls’ golf team continued its run of consecutive state tournament appearances last Thursday as the Lakers ran away with the Section 3AA title with a team score of 332.

The Lakers’ Alexis Guggisberg led three Minnewaska players who finished in the top five individually. Guggisberg shot the only sub-80 score on the girls’ side with a 77 to earn medalist honors. Senior Brianna Janu was second with an 81 and her younger sister Jenna Janu carded an 84 to finish fourth. Ellen Stensrud rounded out the Minnewaska scoring with a 90.

The other teams in the 3AA field didn’t come close to keeping up. Jackson County Central was second at the meet with a 388. Worthington was third with a 412 and Montevideo finished fourth at 420.

The Lakers will try to regain control of the AA field at the Ridges at Sand Creek Golf Course in Jordan during the state tournament June 12-13. Minnewaska finished third last spring after winning five straight state titles before that.
