Evangeline “Vangie” Klimek, 88, of Clarissa, died Saturday, May 26, 2012 at Knute Nelson in Alexandria.
Vangie was born May 25, 1924 in Alexandria Township to Charles and Nellie (Olson) Gahlon. She attended Liberty School in rural Alexandria for five years; her family then moved to Millerville and she finished her education in Urbank.
After Vangie finished school, she worked on the family farm. She married Victor Klimek on June 15, 1944 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Urbank and worked with her family for two years until they purchased a farm near Vining. In 1959 they bought a farm by Rose City and farmed there until 1991 when they retired and moved to a small farm near Clarissa.
Vangie was a terrific cook (and was very good at making egg coffee), she loved music and gardening (she could make anything grow). She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Christian Mother’s and taught Sunday School for eight years.
Evangeline is survived by her husband, Victor, of Clarissa; children, Michael (Linda) Klimek of Long Prairie, Dave (Paula) Klimek of Carlos, Thomas (Gwen) Klimek of Eagle Bend, Angela (Steve) Grewe of Bertha, Linda Kerkeide and friend John Nelson of Alexandria, Anita Briggs of Alexandria, Maxine Bous and fiancé, Eric Larson of Alexandria; 26 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
Vangie was preceded in death by her parents; son, Victor Jr.; daughter, Ruth Ann Berg, and daughter, Therese, in infancy; one granddaughter, Laura Grewe; four brothers and five sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held for Vangie on Wednesday, May 30 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Clarissa and burial was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
