Card boys' tennis: Alexandria players still alive in individual tournament

Alexandria’s Mack Wadi and Austin Storm put together a fourth-place finish at the Section 8AA North doubles tennis tournament last Thursday.

The Cardinal duo took on Tim Solum and Tom Mulvaney of Moorhead in the third-place match, where they came up short 6-1, 6-2. They got to that point with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win over a duo from Brainerd in the quarterfinals.

They also won 6-3, 7-6 (9-7) in their opening match against Matt Hokanson and Noah Holter of Bemidji. The Lumberjacks’ top-seeded duo of Adam Holter and Kyle Fodness dropped Storm and Wadi to the third-place match with a 6-4, 6-3 win in the semifinals.

Trevor Grandgenett and Ben VonBargen made were the second doubles team for Alexandria in the tournament. They battled in the opening round but came up short in a 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 6-3 match against Moorhead’s Wes Meyer and Ben Suits Baer.

Brandon Holm and Brock Wood took part in the singles tournament for the Cardinals. Holm lost in a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 match in the first round, while Wood fell 7-5, 7-5.
