School bus crash in Pope County causes minor injuries

Five children in a Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa school bus were injured in Pope County Friday afternoon, along with the driver who crashed into the bus.

Five children in a Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa school bus were injured in Pope County Friday afternoon, along with the driver who crashed into the bus.

The accident happened at the intersection of Highway 29 and Highway 55 at about 1:55 p.m.

The school bus, driven by Neil Meierhofer, 60, of Belgrade was stopped at a railroad crossing and was rear-ended by a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by Carlayne Kloster, 23, of Grove City, according to the Pope County Sheriff’s Office.

Five children suffered minor injuries and all the others in the bus, 41 people, were transported to the hospital for routine evaluation, according to the sheriff’s office. The names of the children were not released.

Kloster also suffered minor injuries in the crash.
