Central Square in Glenwood will present the traveling folk musician Michael Johnson on Friday, June 8 at 7:30 p.m. He is a national recording artist with a number of hits, including “Bluer Than Blue” from 1978.
Johnson is one of the best guitar players and solo concert artists in the country. He sits alone on stage, on a stool, in a pool of light and sings and plays guitar in a way that captures the audience’s heart and soul.
Johnson’s gift for music has spurred him to help others do the same, so he will present a free workshop for area amateur performers on Thursday, June 7 at 7 p.m. in the Central Square auditorium. He will cover the basics of performance and how to make your singing and accompaniment the best it can be.
Each workshop participant will have the chance to perform and Johnson will give feedback. Anyone is invited to attend the workshop as an observer, but there is limited space for actual participants. Call Central Square at (320) 634-0400 to sign up.
Also, Central Square invites people to come early for a pre-concert program at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 8 in the upstairs lounge to meet Johnson and learn about his music, his artistic process and other interesting information that will enhance the concert-going experience. Call for reservations. Space is limited. Refreshments will be served.
Tickets for the concert are $15 for adults, $5 for students. For reserved seating, call the Central Square box office at (320) 634-0400 or toll free 1-866-497-0400. Tickets will also be available at the door.
