New historical and cultural heritage grants awarded; Douglas County gets $7,000 for new study
The Minnesota Historical Society has announced that 12 organizations in 11 counties will preserve and share the state’s history with support from Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grants, funded by the Legacy Amendment. With this announcement, funds set aside for fiscal year 2012, which ends June 30, are now all granted.

The Society received 86 applications requesting nearly $490,000, when only approximately $74,000 remained.
The Society also announced Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grants deadlines for fiscal year 2013, which begins July 1, 2012:
Deadlines for Small Grants, which are up to $7,000: June 15, August 17, October 5, November 9, 2012 (funds permitting) and January 11, 2013 (funds permitting).
Deadlines for Mid and Large Size grants, which are $7,001 and higher: mandatory pre-applications, June 1, 2012; final applications, July 27, 2012.

Each Historical and Cultural Heritage Grant project will preserve and enhance Minnesota’s cultural and historical resources. The grants are awarded according to professional standards and criteria.
The latest round of local recipients of Small and Structured Grants of up to $7,000 are:
• Douglas County, city of Alexandria, Alexandria’s Historic Context Study, $7,000.
• Otter Tail County, Prospect House Museum, Prospect House National Register Nomination, $7,000.
The Society received a 2011 legislative appropriation to award a total of $10.5 million in Historical and Cultural Heritage Grants during the 2012 and 2013 fiscal years. The grants provide an unprecedented opportunity for non-profit and educational organizations, government units and tribal organizations to preserve and share the state’s history and cultural heritage.
Grants are available for history and historic preservation projects in three tiers: Small or Structured Grants of $7,000 or less, Mid-Size Grants between $7,001 and $50,000, and Large Grants of more than $50,001.
