Softball: Ashby beats Verndale in regular season finale

The Ashby softball team wrapped up the regular season with an 11-10 win over Verndale in eight innings last Friday.

The Arrows led 10-6 heading into the bottom of the seventh before Verndale scored four times to send it into extras. Cassandra Jordan led off the top of the eighth with a walk before stealing second base. Meg Roley then came up two batters later and delivered a game-winning single. Amber Sundal retired the Pirates in order in the bottom of the eighth to secure the win.

“Today was a great team effort,” head coach Kandace Norby said. “It was great seeing the girls fight to the finish and pull this one out.”

Sundal went all eight innings to get the win. She allowed eight hits and three walks, while striking out four. Just one of the 10 runs she allowed was earned.

The Arrows had 11 hits. Jaden Witt had a hit and three RBIs. Madison VanSanten went 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Jordan, Roley, Jeannette Evavold, Emily Elliot, Paige Nelson and Bailey Funkhouser all had a hit apiece, as well.
