Resorters baseball: Brandon-Evansville Bluedogs now 3-1
The Brandon-Evansville Bluedogs moved to 3-1 on the early Resorters baseball season with two more wins this past weekend.
The Bluedogs showed off a little pop with three home runs in a 13-3 win over Clarissa in seven innings on Sunday. The two teams were supposed to meet up in Clarissa but rain there pushed the game back to Evansville.
Brandon-Evansville took advantage of the move to its home field. The Bluedogs jumped out early with four runs in the bottom of the first on the back of four walks and two hit batters.
They didn’t need that kind of help from Clarissa the rest of the way. Monte Hinzmann cracked a three-run home run that gave his team a 7-0 lead in the fourth.
That lead was 8-3 when Chris Shea came to the plate with the bases loaded in the seventh. He connected on the first of back-to-back home runs for the Bluedogs. Shea’s grand slam cleared the left-center field fence before Nate Meissner put the finishing touches on the game with a solo shot that ended the game by the 10-run rule.
Matt Bruns got the win, going 5 1/3 innings and allowing two runs on two hits and three walks. He struck out four before leaving the game in the sixth. Collin Modahl worked the final 1 2/3 innings, allowing one run on five hits.
The Bluedogs once again used a fast start to carry them to a 6-3 win over Sauk Centre earlier in the weekend. Brandon-Evansville scored three runs in the first and added single runs in the second, fifth and eighth innings to keep the Titans at an arm’s length.
Meissner had a 4-for-5 day. He had two doubles, two runs and two RBIs. Hinzmann added a hit and an RBI, while Modahl and Adam Johnson each had a hit and a run scored.
Johnson shut out the Titans during that stretch, allowing three hits and three walks, while striking out nine. Modahl worked the eighth and allowed three runs before Ryan Hendrickson struck out two in a scoreless ninth.
The Bluedogs will host Miltona at 7 p.m. in Evansville on Saturday before welcoming in Urbank-Parkers Prairie at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
