Nationally known singer/songwriter and guitarist Michael Johnson from Nashville will teach a free workshop for amateur singers, guitar and piano players, songwriters and any local "open mic" style performers in area communities on Thursday, June 7 at 7 p.m. in the Central Square Auditorium in Glenwood.

In this performance workshop, Johnson will cover vocal and instrumental skills and the art of putting it all together. He will cover the nuts and bolts – pitch, rhythm and dynamics and song arrangement. He'll talk about self-accompaniment and how to stay out of your own way, and will share some new and easy chord ideas.

"We'll be talking about everything from set lists to stage fright, from understanding and creating good PA to sound-checking,” Johnson said. “I’ll do all I can to help you shine up your song and your show and have a consistent, moving and entertaining performance.”

People should bring their guitar or other musical instrument and plan to perform. A grand piano will be available.

The workshop is limited to 15 people. Call Central Square at (320) 634-0400 to register.

This activity is funded by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature.
