Reed, a graduate of Jefferson High School in Alexandria, began singing at an early age. His early education also included piano and violin. He recently graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (UWEC), where he pursued a performance degree in violin and voice, with the focus on voice.
He attended the Johanna Meier Opera Theater Institute and performed scenes from La Boheme and La Traviata. Back at the university in the fall, he participated in a master class with the general director of the Fort Worth Opera. After that performance he was invited on a full scholarship to Seagle Music Colony.
After his final year as an undergraduate at UWEC, Reed competed in the Metropolitan Opera National Council auditions, winning the Wisconsin district – the youngest singer to receive an award at the Upper Midwest Regions. He also received a contract with the Wolf Trap Opera Studio in Vienna, Virginia, where he will spend this summer.
Reed will continue his education at Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on a full-tuition scholarship. In 2013 he will make his professional debut with Fort Worth Opera.
