It’s time to Awake the Lakes!

The Awake the Lakes festival will kick off the summer season on Saturday, May 26 with a variety of family-friendly activities, including the following:
• The Runestone Museum is hosting breakfast with Big Ole on Saturday, May 26 from 8 to 10 a.m. in Fort Alexandria at the museum, 206 Broadway in Alexandria. The breakfast is a fundraiser for the Runestone Museum.
The menu will include various egg bakes, fruit, juice, and egg coffee. Big Ole and the directors of the Runestone Museum will be in attendance to visit with attendees.
Fort Alexandria will be open to the public free of charge. The museum will be open at regular rates.
Tickets for the breakfast are $6 at the door; advance tickets may be purchased at the museum office.
• Rich Wieber’s Extreme Bicycle Stunt Show is set for Saturday, May 26 at Big Ole Central Park. There will be three performances – 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and noon.
The show includes bicycle stunts, a high-energy announcer and upbeat music. For information, visit the website www.bicyclestuntshows.com.
• A free blues harmonica training workshop for kids ages 8 to 16 is set for Saturday, May 26. Two 30-minute sessions will be offered – 2 to 2:30 p.m. and 3 to 3:30 p.m.
The workshop is taught by Minnesota musician and entertainer Everett Smithson. He has been playing the harmonica since 1970. He offers private lessons and teaches Community Education courses.
Each session will be limited to 15 students. All class materials are free and will include harmonicas, instruction literature, songs and diagrams. The class will address beginning harmonica issues, such as breathing, rhythm and being able to play one hole at a time.
Register at the Alexandria Lakes area Chamber of Commerce at least 30 minutes before the session. The location of the workshop is to be announced.
