WCA girls' golf: Grove leads WCA in HOL golf

Morgan Grove led the West Central Area girls' golf team to a sixth-place finish at the Barnesville Invite at Willow Creek Golf Club last Tuesday.

Grove shot a career-best 47 to finish in sixth-place individually.

"Pars and bogeys were a common thing on her card," head coach Kari Kreft said. "What a fun night."

The Knights finished with a team score of 221, three shots away from Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton in fifth. Pelican Rapids won the tournament with a 179.

Tiffany Boysen shot a 52 as the second-leading scorer for WCA. Marissa Hayward shot a 55 and Katie Larkin and Hunter McKenzie both shot 67s to account for the final score.

"It was a chilly and windy night but the girls worked hard, had smiles on their faces and did not complain about the weather at all," Kreft said. "Tiffany Boysen had a nice, solid game, very consistent scores."

DGF meet

The West Central Area girls' golf team finished seventh at the Heart O' Lakes Conference tournament at the Meadows Golf Course on Monday.

The Knights finished with a team score of 474 as Marissa Hayward led their scoring with a 114. Tiffany Boysen shot a 118. Morgan Grove carded a 119 and McKenzie Hunter rounded out the scoring with a 123.

"Each of the girls had good holes and shots that they were proud of throughout the day," head coach Kari Kreft said. "But penalty strokes really hurt us."

The Knights found the water in The Meadows all too often on Monday.

"We now realize that we have lots of room to play opposite of the water and hope to be on the dry side next year," Kreft said. "Even with the help of the water pole, many shots were blind and the water snuck up on us."
