Osakis softball: Silverstreaks top Melrose, fall to Browerville
Sabrina Zimmel kept Melrose at bay all night on Monday as the Silverstreaks softball team got a 3-1 win over the Dutchmen.
Zimmel didn’t walk anyone in the complete-game performance. She scattered five hits and struck out six after giving up an unearned run in the first inning.
She helped get that run back at the plate. Zimmel had a double and two runs scored on the night, while Lauren Silbernick went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Alex Anderson added the other RBI on a 2-for-4 night.
“We pitched very well today and played solid defense when we had to,” head coach John Stigman said. “Sabrina threw a strong game, giving up only five hits and no walks. We were able to get a couple big hits to drive in runs.”
“Overall, we are playing well right now, with the exception of two innings in the last four games,” Stigman said.

Osakis looked as if it would put the first Prairie Conference blemish on Browerville’s record Friday as the Silverstreaks led 4-1 over the Tigers, but a five-run bottom of the seventh washed it all away.
“This was a tough loss to take,” said head coach John Stigman. “For 20 outs, we had the game. We just didn’t get that last out.
“Sabrina [Zimmel] threw a fantastic game, controlling it the entire game until the last inning.
Zimmel went six and two-thirds inning, giving up six hits and six runs, with just one of those runs earned.
