Ashby softball: Arrows down Parkers Prairie, Wheaton-HN

The Ashby softball team rolled over Parkers Prairie 9-2 last Thursday night.

The Arrows scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth to erase an early 1-0 deficit. Meg Roley provided the biggest hit of the inning on a three-run home run to right-center field. Ashby put the game away in the sixth with five more runs, two off the bat of Jaden Witt.

Paige Nelson got her third win of the season. She scattered six hits and five walks, while striking out six. Amber Sundal, Cassandra Jordan, Madison VanSanten and Bailey Funkhouser also added base hits to help the Arrows win their sixth game of the season.

“We had solid pitching, great defense from our outfield and infield and some timely hitting, which is a perfect recipe for a win,” head coach Candace Norby said.

Ashby 11, WHN 5

The Ashby softball team used 14 hits to take an 11-5 game against Wheaton-Herman-Norcross on Monday night.

The Arrows scored five times in the third inning and four more in the seventh to put the game away. Paige Nelson and Jeannette Evavold each went 3-for-4, while Jaden Witt, Cassandra Jordan and Abbi Ras had two hits apiece. Bailey Funkhouser and Meg Roley added the final two hits for the Arrows.

Nelson got her fourth win of the season. She scattered six hits and five walks, while striking out five. Her defense also made the plays behind her to keep the Warriors from doing much damage.

“Our outfield play (Emily Elliot, Jordan and Madison VanSanten) was stellar today as they tracked down many balls that could have dropped in for hits,” head coach Kandace Norby said. “Their great catches were the difference in this game.”

Ashby couldn’t seem to find a spot to hit the ball as the Arrow softball team fell to Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley 4-2 Friday in Pheasant Conference play.

“The Wolverines held us in check with solid pitching and defense,” said Arrow head coach Kandace Norby. “Offensively, the girls were patient and selective at the plate, taking good swings, but they couldn’t find the gaps when we needed them.”

Ashby’s offense was led by Amber Sundal, who was 2-for-3 and Abbi Raus, who went 1-3 with two runs batted in.

Cassandra Jordan, Emily Elliot, Jeannette Evavold and Bailey Funkhouser each had one hit.

Paige Nelson and Sundal split the pitching duties, giving up nine hits, four runs – two earned, walking seven and striking out seven.
