• Dr. Jeff Brand, orthopedic surgeon, and Erin McCoy, PT, director of rehab serv-ices, presented a research abstract titled, “Single-Injection versus Continuous Femoral Nerve Catheter Block for Postoperative Pain Control Following TKA” at the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons annual meeting. Additional authors are Engin Sungur, PhD; Rich-ard Hardy, MA, ATC, CSCS; Jefferson Brand III; Ray Bowman, MA, ATC; and Paul Dale, MD.

The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons’ meet-ing in San Francisco, Cali-fornia, provides education and practice management courses for orthopedic sur-geons and allied health pro-fessionals.

Members of the Douglas County Hospital/Heartland Orthopedic Specialists team who attended included Brand, Dr. Thomas Dudley and McCoy.

• Carlos Creek Winery was recently selected to receive the prestigious WeddingWire Bride’s Choice Awards 2012 for ceremony and reception venue.

The esteemed annual awards program recognizes the top local wedding vendors from the WeddingWire Network who demonstrate excellence in quality, service, responsiveness and professionalism within the wedding industry.

While many industry awards are selected by the organization, Carlos Creek Winery was selected based on its stellar reviews from past newlywed clients.

Carlos Creek Winery is recognized as part of the top 5 percent of wedding professionals in the WeddingWire local vendor community, comprised of more than 200,000 wedding professionals throughout the U.S. and Canada.

The Bride’s Choice Award recognizes the best local wedding vendors across 20 service categories, from wedding venues to wedding photographers, based on their overall professional achievements throughout the past year.

• The 3M Foundation has donated $250 to St. Mary’s School in Alexandria in recognition of Wayne Thoennes’ commitment to the community. Thoennes has donated 20 hours to St. Mary’s School. As a volunteer, he has helped in the kindergarten classrooms and the school lunchroom.

As part of the 3M Volunteer Match, the 3M Foundation will donate $250 to eligible non-profit organizations for which a 3M employee volunteers 20 hours or a 3M retiree volunteers 25 hours or more per calendar year.
