Semi splashes into Lake Latoka

Semi strays off Interstate 94 and lands in Lake Latoka Thursday morning.

A semi was pulled out of Lake Latoka west of Alexandria Thursday morning after its driver lost control on Interstate 94. Velic Hasan, 39, of Utica, New York was driving west when the semi went off the roadway, through a fence and into the lake.

Hasan was able to get out of the cab and sit on top of the truck until he was picked up by boat and brought to shore. He was taken to the Douglas County Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the State Patrol.

Others assisting at the scene included Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Alexandria Police Department and North Ambulance.
