Richard “Dick” Furley Stone Sr., age 77 of Alexandria, died, April 27, 2012 at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.
A memorial service will be held for Richard on Sunday, May 20 at 1:30 p.m. at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at Hudson Cemetery in Forada.
Richard was born August 22, 1934 to Henry and Mabel Stone in Seeley, Wisconsin. He grew up in various towns in Iowa and Wisconsin.
On August 25, 1952, Dick entered active military service in the United States Air Force. He honorably served his country in the Korean War. He retired from the service after 27 years in the Air Force at the Travis Air Force Base in California, Army Reserves in Arden Hills, Minnesota and the National Guard in Hayward, Wisconsin.
Richard was united in marriage to Wanda June Mattson on November 3, 1956 in Hayward, WI. This marriage was blessed with five children.
Dick and Wanda made their home in Wisconsin. In 1967, they moved to Minnesota where Dick worked at Andersen Windows for the next 28 years. They moved to Forada in 1996. Dick was very active in the Forada Lions Club, serving as past president. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, building and remodeling, and spending time with his family.
Dick is survived by his wife of 55 years, Wanda; children, Juanita Radunz of Forada, Richard Jr. (Valarie) Stone of Hayward, WI, Raymond Stone of Stillwater, Jacqueline (Gerald) Sandwick of Alexandria, and Rene’ Stone of New Richland, WI; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Kathryn (Ralph) Fullington of Rapid City, SD; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Nina Krueger; and three infant siblings.
