Buffalo athlete wins Chain of Lakes Triathlon

The 11th annual Chain of Lakes Triathlon had 170 participants and saw Marcus Stromberg finished with the best overall time in 55.12.

The 35-year-old from Buffalo navigated the 600-yard swim, 13-mile bike ride and 2.8 mile walk more than five minutes faster than his nearest competitor. Josh Bertelson of Minnetonka was second (1:00.23), while Alexandria’s Joe Schneiderhan finished third among the males in 1:00.24.

Former Card swimmer Angie Hop of Rosemount was the top overall female finisher. Hop crossed the finish line in 1:04.43. Christina Meier of Minneapolis was second in 1:07.16, while Jody Mullet was third in 1:07.26.

Sarah Florell, Heather Godfrey and Shawn Severson were the top three Alexandria finishers in the female division. Florell, 29, came across in 1:09.44. Godfrey, 27, finished in 1:12.14 and Severson, 39, in 1:16.47. Eric Swenson, 26, and Troy Hocum, 42, rounded out the top three Alexandria finishers in the male division behind Schneiderhan in times of 1:02.12 and 1:04.51, respectively.

Jackie Olson and Scott Woods teamed up to finish first in the relay among Alexandria contestants. The duo finished in 1:12.33.
