Brock Wood picked up the only win of the day for Alexandria as the Cardinal boys’ tennis team fell to Brainerd 6-1 Tuesday.
“Brock had an up-and-down match with both players playing their hearts out,” said Cardinal coach Dave Ronning. “Brock was able to prevail with the second set going to a tiebreaker.
“Trevor [Grandgenett] and Ben [VonBargen] both put in a good effort, but had little to show for it as they both went down in straight sets.
“Brendan [Holm] and Will [Harding] lost two close sets, but they fell behind in both sets, and although they came back in both, it was too little, too late,” he added. “The rest of the guys didn’t have their best night, and when you play a good team like Brainerd, you have to bring your ‘A’ game at every spot or they will make you pay for it.”
Alexandria fell to 6-9 overall and was to have traveled to St. Cloud Apollo yesterday, Thursday. They will host Willmar today, Friday.
