The Osakis softball team rebounded from its second loss of the season with an easy 18-0 win over West Central Area last Friday night.
The Silverstreaks led 2-0 before an 11-run third inning blew the game open. A young Knights team had no answer as Lauren Silbernick and Alida Hovey combined to throw a two-hitter.
“We got a very good pitching performance from Lauren today,” head coach John Stigman said. “She kept their hitters off balance and worked four strong innings. Offensively, we did some very good things, especially in our short game.”
Silbernick went the first four innings to earn the win. The senior allowed two hits and no walks, while striking out six. Hovey struck out two in a perfect fifth inning to finish off the game.
Janna Juntunen led an 11-hit attack for the Osakis offense. The senior outfielder went 3-for-3 with a double, a triple and three RBIs. Mackenzie Staloch went 2-for-2. Tonya Hetland scored four runs and Dani Chisholm, Silbernick, Kaitlin Deel and Sabrina Zimmel all had RBIs.
“We were able to execute several offensive plays that allowed us to move runners up to scoring position,” Stigman said. “The outburst we had in the third was partly attributed to good base running and timely hits. Janna had a big day for us with three hits, two for extra bases.”
The Silverstreaks moved to 8-2 overall and 7-2 in the Prairie Conference with the win. The Knights were still searching for their first win of the season after falling to 0-10.
