Osakis track and field: Silverstreak girls compete at Hamline Elite meet, junior high first

Competing against some of the best the state has to offer, Osakis’ 4x100 junior high relay team finished first.

This was the first year for the event at the Hamline Elite Meet, and a 53.14 by Ashley Kraemer, Abby Stroup, Allison Scherr and Brittney Sadlemyer earned them a spot in the marquee event.

They proved they deserved to be there as they ran a 53.10 for the top spot, beating out Rochester Century and Burnsville, which ran times of 55.85 and 56.28.

“It was a lot of fun to see them win a race in front of a stadium full of fans,” said head coach Lee VanNyhuis. “That kind of time is good, even for a varsity squad.”

The Silverstreak 4x400 relay team was disqualified in their event, which was won by Lakeville South.

“The girls got disqualified for running on the line,” said VanNyhuis, “but we ran a good race and finished close to our seed time.

“The important thing was that they got the chance to go down and experience somewhat of a similar atmosphere to that of the state track meet. We got everything out of the meet that we intended to.

“There are some great athletes in the state,” he added. “To watch them compete was a pleasure and to compete against them was an honor.”
