Habitat for Humanity recruiting VISTAs to make statewide impactDouglas County affiliate searching for two dedicated individuals
Habitat for Humanity of Douglas County (HFHDC) is currently recruiting a Program Development VISTA and a Family Selection VISTA to join the global movement to build simple, decent and affordable housing in partnership with people in need. The local affiliate was selected as one of only nine Habitat affiliates (out of 33 Habitat affiliates statewide) to host 2012-2013 VISTA members.
HFHDC has completed more than 30 homes in partnership with low-income working families. In order to increase the number of families served each year, HFHDC is opening two VISTA positions supporting the development of new programs to expand current services offered, as well as increase the community’s awareness of homeownership opportunities and grow the number of qualified applicants.
Administered and funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), AmeriCorps VISTA is a national service program, which provides opportunities for people of all ages to serve full-time for one year with a community organization. In exchange for their service, VISTA members receive a modest living allowance of $927 per month, health benefits and student loan deferment. In addition, after completing the one-year service commitment, VISTA members can choose to receive either a cash stipend of $1,500 or an education award of $5,550 to be used for tuition or student loans.
Habitat for Humanity VISTA members spend one year working full-time on projects designed to increase the organizational capacity of local Habitat for Humanity affiliates. VISTA members recruit and coordinate volunteers, raise funds and secure in-kind donations, start new programs, and conduct outreach and marketing campaigns.
Locally, Habitat for Humanity of Douglas County is actively recruiting two 2012-2013 VISTA positions.
Both positions include extensive leadership and professional development training that will prepare the VISTAs for futures in nonprofit or public service careers.
