Card girls' track and field: Bowden sets personal best in high jump victory at Monticello

Alexandria finished fourth at the invitational

Briquelle Bowden’s personal best jump of 5’4” in the high jump earned her a first place finish at the Monticello Invitational Thursday and helped the Cardinal girls’ track and field team to fourth.

Bowden’s leap should land her on the State Class AA’s honor roll, joining teammate Jenna Larson, who had a 5’0” jump at the Moorhead MAA meet to find a spot on the state roll.

The best jump to date has come from Morgan Pieri of Lakeville South with a leap of 5’6”, just two inches better than the Cardinal junior.

Bowden finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.41.

Alexandria received runner-up honors from Karly Betterman in the 300-meter hurdles with a 49.31, Julia Sieling in the 800-meter run in 2:28.35, and the 4x800-meter relay team of Kristin Egenes, Nicole Canavati, Julia Sieling and Karly Betterman in 10:20.91.

Discus thrower Brittany Ludwig, who had a toss of 115’7.5”, bettering her throw of 111’3” at Sartell that landed her on the state honor roll. She also finished third in the shot put with a 35’6” throw for a personal best.

Brianna Johnson had a personal best of her own in the shot put with a sixth place throw of 34’2”, and Murphy Notch’s toss of 92’3” in the discus was a personal best as well.

Monticello captured the title in its own invitational.

Alexandria will now be at Sauk Rapids-Rice on Thursday, May 10.
